I was never much into boys' toys, boys' movies or even boys' shows as a kid. Never cared about my brother's Transformers, cap guns (though I loved the gun powder smell) or his little red boxing gloves. I do remember being super jeal when my paternal grandparents gifted him a kid-sized beautiful baby blue Jeep one Christmas. Where was mine? Why was I stuck with an Alvin & The Chipmunks Christmas album (which I loved, but still) and a stuffed Bambi? I wanted that damn car so badly. I think I was too big to fit into it so it wasn't like we got to share it.
In addition to the baby blue Jeep, I always wished I could have a car bed ... They were typically made of wood or sturdy plastic. I remember Ricky Schroder had one on Silver Spoons. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. But alas, a girl gets a frilly, gingham canopy bed--which I adored, don't get me wrong, but come on, frills are not as cool as a CAR!

Before I scrolled down, first thing I thought was "Silver Spoons" and haha there it was when I did scroll down.
Ever see "Grandma's Boy"? Some grown man sleeps in one of those...f'n hysterical.
See and I wanted one of those huge canopy beds with the curtains to close and all the other features. But to me it wasn't 'girlie'. It was a bed fit for a Sultan. I had a bit of a royalty complex even back then.
If I had one of those I would have told my friends that the curtains were there to keep out the mosquitoes at night just like in those jungle movies.
I think our wishes cancel each other out in the larger univererse so we are fine.
I never had a car bed . . .
However, I did used to have a mattress with pictures of race cars on it when I was about that age. It brings back memories.

Oh I so wanted a car bed when I was growing up but it wasn't affordable and not practical. I do want to get my son a car bed but we just got free practically new bed so I am out of luck right now. But maybe one day soon I can surprise him with one. =)
My bed was a boat, but only in my imagination. Thanks for the hyperlink tip!

LOL, my son had a car bed :)

I never had a car bed, but I did have some PJ's with race cars printed on them.
Or maybe they were just stains...A boy can dream, can't he?
Yeah, I was always jealous of the Ricker's car bed. My parents gave me the ol' song and dance that it just wasn't practical. I got some formica monstrosity instead.
I STILL want a car bed! I do!
its never to late to get a car bed, have you seen grandma's boy? Hahaha!! its too funny!!!
I may have to get my son one of these when he gets a little older
Boy? Someone else's kid?
Hell no, you buy one for me! I'll sleep in a racecar bed happily, even if my feet probably would stick out the end.
My nephew had a race car bed! He outgrew it fast.
You don't have to be a boy to demand a car bed ;)
Well - yeah, Ally... these were cool. As with so many cool things from this age (the 80's?) they came along after I was too old to have them.
...and my son is 19, so he's kinda out of the picture...
I'll just set my heart on buying a real sports car now - someday...
You know, though, us boys never got cool things like easy bake ovens! :)
My son is three. And alas, we decided to go with the regular twin bed when he moved out of his crib last year. Sorry to disappoint you!
One of my friend's when I was kid had a bed that was in the shape of a plane. I was infinitely jealous.
Thanks for visiting my blog and following! Your blog is super cute!
I thought car beds were cool when I was a kid, and I wasn't a boy! I think it would be right up my husbands alley to have a TRUCK bed now.
Hey, I have given you an award. Please check it out HERE
I always wanted one of those car beds when I was a kid! And one of those mini Jeep things! Alas, I got Barbies instead.
I love that bed. And I'm here following you now. :)
OMG! Just stumbled upon your blog and love, love, love it! I never wanted a race car bed, but I did have a frilly pink canopy bed. Ugh! I also have to say that FASHION PLATES were my absolute favorite! Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
Hope you'll stop by my 1972 retro weight watchers blog sometime.

What a great post...even without the link to my giveaway!
This totally makes me think of the Simpsons quote, "I sleep in a racecar, where do YOU sleep?" "I sleep in a big bed with my wife!"
All i thought was 'the rickster' and there he was! My first visit to your blog was a happy one! Thanks for rocking Rick into it today. Come visit me, too!

They so didnt have these when I was a kid. I would have loved it
haha!
my husband said if we got him a race car bed, he'd have race car dreams, which would leave major race car skids....
booooo to the race car dreams.
it's hard to find a good bed these days....
i'm TOTALLY with you on wanting the jeep.
i was like 12 and wanted one.
so instead, i bought my daughter one when she was 3....
and i totally tried to drive it....
Too bad they don't make those for grown-ups! Can you imagine if they came in Cal-King?!
I never had a cool race car bed. I was stuck with sharing a room with my brother and having bunk beds. When you don't have a bunk bed you think it's cool but it was a pain in the ass climbing up and down that thing all the time.
I always wanted one too! I was stuck with a stupid bunk bed because I had to share a room with my stupid brother.... At least I got the top bunk....
I had a canopy bed growing up. It was fun, until I bent the canopy poles by trying to swing on it. My nephew's gonna get a Thomas the Train bed. How cool is that? My personal preference would be the Mock 5.
Cheers, and I hope you're feeling better. (Sorry I've been a bit MIA.)
Cheers,
Robyn
