Weekend Retro Rewind | Alphaville Forever Young

The end of June always reminds me of graduation, yearbooks, proms, summer jobs, driver's ed and more. If you've been following Fourth Grade Nothing for a while, you know I'm, well, stuck. Forever lost in reverie. Some days I'm stuck in grade school while other days I'm in junior high or high school. This song will forever remind me of my senior year. Most of my classmates quoted this song in their yearbook.

It's so ironic, I'm not sure if you've ever felt this way, but as a kid all I wanted to do was grow up. I couldn't wait to be out on my own, making my own rules. Doing something wondrous with my life. Many days I wish I could go back to a simple time. A time when summer meant swimming in the pool, devouring slices of watermelon not thinking for a moment about carbs or calories.

So many adults told us to slow down. They told us to enjoy our youth. I wish I had listened. Now I leave comments on the blogs of young, single folk telling them to enjoy their youth and that the world is theirs. Oh Alphaville, I agree, I want to be Forever Young.

  4. I remember the song, but for the life of me, not the video.

I try to tell young people, all the time, stop wishing your life away. Enjoy being young, old lasts a heck of a lot longer.

  7. I don't really remember this song from when I was young. When I heard it in Napoleon Dynamite I was thinking what a great song and now have it on one of my 80s music mix cds.

I like when you put facts about stuff in your blogs - I learn alot from them. Sometimes I don't trust my memory and when I read these things here I know for sure if I'm right or wrong - suprisingly it's usually the former.

  8. I, too, am seriously stuck. I miss those good ole days so so much. Thank God for the memories. Did you graduate in '91? I graduated in '93 and our senior song was "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday." So true.

  9. Well, Miss Ally- we must be the same age. I remember vividly Alphaville. And yes, the 80's were full of hope and less anxiety if you were a kid, and didn't have to worry about adult things, like Reaganomics etc. Remember that Phil Collins video where he had a puppet Reagan "This is the world we live in...wah-oh..." Wow, we're adults now.

You know, On the 10th I'm celebrating my 5th b-day, just cause I want to. Because every birthday should be a 5th birthday for that very reason.

    Thank you for the memories...

  14. I LOVE that song. It makes me giggle, if only due to that Dynamite movie, and many ridiculous slow dances with awkward boys in my youth. :)
