Like most little girls growing up in the '80s, I loved anything girly (in addition to smurfs of course). Dolls such as Barbie, Cabbage Patch -- you name it, I had to have it! One particular toy I liked you may not remember, Dolly Pops or Dolly Pops Dress-ups. Unlike most dolls, Dolly Pops were made of a hardened plastic, but had soft doll hair. The dolls had snap-on clothes and snap-on toy accessories.
Here's a somewhat disturbing TV commercial for Dolly Pops featuring a grown woman with a childlike voice. Enjoy!
I had some of these and loved them. Next I'd like you to feature those plastic "jewel" boxes that opened up and had hidden dolls inside that folded out. Remember those? I think you could turn them into a bracelet or a necklace or a barrette...
I had something similar to that, but I don't think they were called dolly pops. Probably the cheap knockoff brand!! lol Yea, that commercial is a bit creepy!
My little sister had some of these, and I bought my daughter some "Snap 'n Style" dolls from Fisher-Price when she was three. They have a similar concept, but are way cuter!
I still have mine lol! They're in the 'kids toy box' at my parent's house...the Fashion Show rotating stage, the pink house you could carry them in, the dolls. Yesterday I went out to buy a present for a 2-year-old and was deeply disturbed by the majority of toys out there. Something must be wrong with me. I did find these, not as cool as Dolly Pops but the same idea: http://www.poponpals.com/
Up until a few years ago, I still had my Dolly Pops Fashion Show set with all the dolls and accessories. I remember how much I loved putting the dolls on that stage and turning the handle to give my own little fashion show...LOL!
I was trying so hard to remember the name of these dolls. I absolutlely loved them and the pop-up house I used to put them in! Ahhh fond memories....thank you.
I completely forgot about those! I remember playing with some, but I never had any of my own.

ReplyDeleteI guess I'm just here for eye candy on this one...
ReplyDeleteYes I remember this toy. Yes I also had a snap on shirt in high school. And yes, my friend ripped it off me while I was in english class.
ReplyDeleteOMG. I completely forgot about those toys!! I WANTED EM SO BAD!!!!
ReplyDeleteI HATED those! their clothes were just on in the front and they couldn't really be played with.
ReplyDeleteToy Fail, in my opinion. :)
my daughter had some of those...i guess that dates me. ;)
ReplyDeleteI missed these somehow. I was a fan of My Little Pony and Fairy Tail Birds.
ReplyDeleteDon't remember these at all. Wonder if they distributed them in Canada.
ReplyDeleteDon't remember this one but then I had boys...
ReplyDeleteHer voice just might be more annoying than mine.

ReplyDeleteThat lobotomize lady in the ad will haunt my dreams.
ReplyDeleteLOVE THOSE!!! Ohmygosh I'm time warping hard.
ReplyDeleteThis might be the first toy you have featured that I do not have any recollection of. Alas, I am a dude.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I mentioned a Pogo Ball in my post today and it got me thinking: Have you ever featured the Pogo Ball in a post???
Disturbing indeed. Is that a lady, a girl, a man, or Lady Gaga?
ReplyDeletePS I don't remember this one either. I guess I blocked it out.

I don't really remember these. I had some Cabbage Patch kids though. Wish that I had kept them even though they are a bit weird looking.

ReplyDeleteI had the Dolly Pops fashion show playset, too! I think it's still in the basement at my parents' house.
