Didn't You Wish You Could Be A Dance Party USA Dancer Back in 1987?
The original guidos could be found on Dance Party USA! |
Dance Party USA was shot live-to-tape (like most TV talk shows) in Philadelphia, PA and aired from April 12, 1986 to June 27, 1992 and was originally 30 minutes long, but was expanded to an hour in 1987. The show was also a vehicle to introduce little known singers and bands to a national audience. Researching on YouTube, I couldn't find any singers who really became all that famous. I do remember that the most famous regular on the show to date is Philly native, Kelly Ripa. She was one of the dancers.
Prepare to laugh yourself silly with this 80s awesomeness.
More Dance Party USA fun!

I used to have my own personal Dance Party USA in my living room. Complete with gymnastic moves.
I didn't know Kelly Ripa was on that show. I don't remember watching this but I've heard of it.
I used to also have my own dance party when this came on! i wish they had shows like this now, but they would probably be banned because people dance like strippers now.
omg the dude in the red jersey with the rat tail haircut just made my day.
Yep, I used to see that it was on and then do my own dance party in my room where nobody could see me.
It was the bandstand of our generation. BTW...i made you my blog of the day. It's a new thing I'm doing.
I WAS ON IN summer of 1987! i have a videotape of it!
You had cable in 1986? I lived in the sticks and didn't experience the joy until maybe 89-90.
my cousin who's a year younger than me, was on there a couple times when new kids on the block were on ....we were 12 and 11. I remember 2 girls who baby sat me in kindergarten, were on Dancin on Air...a philly based dance show from the super early 80's
oh and Tina K looked like a Tiffany rip off.
I don't know why I don't remember this one, though it's probably because I'm too old. I loved Bandstand and all the others.

News to me about Kelly Ripa. She sure has made it big. Moneywise anyway. In my day we watched American Bandstand.
I never wanted to be on this show, but I did drool after the Solid Gold girls.
I'm a little too old to have watched this one regularly. But I do remember american bandstand, soul train, 9th street west, hullabaloo, shindig, where the action is, and the lloyd thaxton show. Geeze, I'm getting so old!
Speaking of Kelly Ripa, one of my most-sought-after commercials (yes, I collect old commercials--don't pity or judge) is a teen chat line ad she did around this time. I haven't been able to find any reference to this anywhere...
