Polly Holliday was always cool as Flo. |
I doubt anyone will remember this short-lived TV show, but here goes ...
Flo, a spin-off of the very popular TV show Alice, aired on CBS between 1980-1981. The 30-minute comedy centered around Polly Holliday as Florence Jean Castleberry who leaves Mel's Diner and ends up buying a rundown bar in her hometown of Cowtown, Texas. Flo--known for her kiss-my-grits sassy attitude--begins a new life in Texas as the owner of Flo's Yellow Rose with a whole new cast of characters.
Note, this '80s show wasn't a favorite of mine, probably because the show didn't feature a cute young male character. Just sayin'.

As much as I loved her on Alice, you're right. I don't remember this one. I did crush on Tommy (when he was younger and didn't look like a druggy.)

I know of it from a tv trivia book I read, but that's it. Course I never watched Alice either.
Flo sounds like it would do so good nowadays. I hope they release a box set.
I loved Flo! She reminds me of me.
Kiss my grits!
(sorry, I just wanted to say that!)
I'm with Tom, you gotta say it--
'KISS MY GRITS!'
I remember Alice: with the lead character, Mel, Flo, Viera, etc. It was a staple of late '70s television.
Early Seasons Theme Song
Early to rise...early to bed.
Then, in between, I cooked and cleaned and went out of my head.
Going through life with blinders on - it's tough to see.
I had to get up, get out from under and look for me.
There's a new girl in town and she's looking good.
There's a fresh freckled face in the neighborhood.
There's a new girl in town with a brand new style.
She was just passing through
but if things work out...she's gonna stay awhile
Later Seasons Theme Song
I used to be sad, I used to be shy
The funniest thing - the saddest part is I never knew why.
Kicking myself for nothing was my favorite sport.
I had to get out and start enjoying 'cause life's too short.
There's a new girl in town 'cause I'm feeling good.
Got a smile, got a song for the neighborhood.
Things are great when you stand on your own two feet,
and this girl's here to stay and with some luck and love,
life's gonna be so sweet!
I specifically remember when they played the episode where "Cowtown" had their first White Christmas ever.
Never watched Flo, must have been on opposite something else my sister and I liked more, because we loved Flo on Alice. I remember there being the spin-off, though. My sister and I used to love saying, "Kiss my grits."
