The game of Perfection was rather stressful to me in the late '70s. |
In the late 1970s, Perfection by Lakeside Toys (and then acquired by Milton Bradley) was the game I loved to hate. I've always been sensitive to sound and surprises, so games like Perfection and Operation always freaked me out, yet I of course played them.
To start a game of Perfection, you would press the inner plastic orange-colored tray in and hit the timer. The object of Perfection was to fit 25 different plastic shapes into their matching spots within 60 seconds. Once the timer hit 60 seconds, the tray would pop out tossing the small plastic pieces. I found the game of Perfection super stressful.

Did you own Perfection?

My memories are very vague on this one.
I remember eventually getting very good at Perfection. But my memories are the ones attached to the 1990s commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp6t69K4G9c&feature=player_embedded)
"Put the pieces into the slots, make the right selection, but be quick you're racing the clock (pop!) Pop goes Perfection!)"
My sister and I had this game. I finally conquered it and then she wouldn't let me play anymore...lol. Can't count the number of times it scared the bejeezies out of me when the thing popped.
Oh, and I still remember the commercial jingle!
I squealed out lout when I saw this! I LOVED this game! But waiting for it to pop up was always so disconcerting...like a freaking jack in the box...
Loved this game; got really good at it except for the 2 vaguely "S" shaped pieces that were mirror images of each other (damn dyslexia). Also had a similar game where there were numbered pieces that had to be put in order before the timer went off (didn't play that one for long, the timer broke or something). I remember that the Perfection board would start making a creaking noise before it popped, kinda an early warning, but it may have just been that ours was in the process of breaking.
Never owned it but I did enjoy playing it.
Seeing this game for the first time in like 25 years cracks me up - I remember playing this game at other kids' houses. I would always either jump or scream when all the pieces would fly up. I loved to hate it, too!
