Bosom Buddies sitcom with Tom Hanks & Peter Scolari |
Does anyone remember the 1980s sitcom Bosom Buddies? I loved this show and I loved that Billy Joel's "My Life" (though performed by someone else) was used as the theme song.
Bosom Buddies starred Tom Hanks (before he was really famous) and the adorable Peter Scolari in drag. The boys had to dress up as women in order to live in a cheap affordable apartment in New York City. The concept was zany and unbelievable and the ABC show only survived for two years. Sadly I haven't seen it in recent reruns, but wish The Hub would bring it back.

bosom buddies WAS pretty zany! i still can't believe the other residents of the susan b. anthony hotel were none the wiser that buffy and hilde were actually kip and henry - the next drag superstars they were not. so zany!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I could watch silly stuff. Not so much anymore.
ReplyDeleteIts interesting how shows of that era pushed the envelope just enough, but stayed "safe" for mainstream television. "Bosom Buddies" did a safe version of cross-dressing, with straight guys and a zany explanation for doing so. "Threes Company" also flirted with pushing the envelope, but nothing "really" happened. It was a sign of the times.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch Bosom Buddies when I was a kid and thought it was so funny! I wonder if it would have the same appeal over twenty years later. I also hope it comes to The Hub soon. So happy The Wonder Years is there though!

ReplyDeleteI watched SO MUCH television as a kid growing up in the '80s/90s! I do remember Bosom Buddies but don't remember specific episodes anymore. The theme song was awesome, though! :)
ReplyDeleteI SO remember that show! I thought it was brilliant! Thanks for the good memories.
