| I loved Double Dutch style jump rope in the1980s. |
When I was in grammar school, I loved jumping rope at lunch time. We girls would gather together and work off our lunch jumping rope together. Back then it was awesome, today I'd die if I had to jump rope after lunch.
I remember loving Double Dutch. Double Dutch was a game we loved to play in the school yard with two jump ropes going in different directions, which seemed very confusing. One or more girls would skip over the ropes. It was so much fun.

Anyone remember jumping rope in grammar school?
Used to do a lot of the regular kind, never double dutch. Not sure I had even heard of it, when I was jump rope age.
ReplyDeleteI loved jumping rope! Do you remember those things called Skip Sticks? It was a long white stick with colored foam grips at either end and a jump rope attached to it. I had one of those; it was white and yellow and I can still remember how much I loved jumping rope with that thing! I still have a picture of myself jumping rope with it in my grandparents' driveway when I was about 9 or 10. :)

ReplyDeleteYES! I loved double dutch and could even do a cartwheel through the ropes. I miss being able to jump rope, so much fun!

ReplyDeleteDouble Dutch was unheard of in my small western MA town, but regular jump rope was done some at recess, complete with songs. I was never very good; clumsy, small and no stamina. The first time I was able to run into the already twirling rope and not stop it, I was so surprised I almost forgot to start jumping.
ReplyDeleteI was never any good at this. My classmates hardly ever let me play any jumprope games with them anyhow. I do remember one of the songs being something about Teddy Bear. I was the nerd reading books on the playground.
ReplyDeleteI remember being able to double Dutch in Jersey City when I was eight. But that knowledge is long gone!
ReplyDeleteLoved skipping! Does anyone remember putting a rubber ball in a knee high sock and playing a game where you stood against the wall and banged it over your head and under your leg?
