Roseanne Roseannadanna from Saturday Night Live. |
At around age nine, I discovered a TV show my fellow classmates knew nothing about. Every Saturday night, after my scheduled bedtime, I would tiptoe down to the den and watch Saturday Night Live.
I first discovered the show at my friend Dawn's house. Dawn lived with her dad and he didn't care what we did. I'd sleep at her house on Friday or Saturday nights. We'd build blanket forts and stay up late watching Saturday Night Live every weekend.
For some reason, I thought the late Gilda Radner was hysterical as Roseanne Roseannadanna. Her crazy-haired fictitious character was notoriously loud and obnoxious. Roseanne Roseannadanna would read hilarious "Dear Abby" style letters during SNL's Weekend Update skits. I'm quite sure I was watching this in the 1980s. Maybe NBC ran repeats of the late 1970 episodes. I can't recall. Feel free to enlighten me with a comment if you remember.
Here is a sample clip of Gilda Radner as Roseanne Roseannadanna on Saturday Night Live back in the late 1970s.
Oh. My. Gosh. I *LOVE* Gilda! That smoking rant she does is one of my absolute favorites; several years ago a friend of mine gave me one of those musical Hallmark cards with RR on the front and when you open the card she starts reading that very letter!
ReplyDeleteI got into Gilda about ten years ago; I read her book, laughed watching all of her old SNL episodes, and cried watching her "E! True Hollywood Story." Her talent was one in a million, and her life was cut way too short. But no matter what, Gilda will always be one of my favorite comediennes. :)
Sabrina's response is mine too: Oh My Goodness! I've been thinking a lot about Gilda Radner lately, as I attempt to hone my humor. There was none better. Plus, her heart shone through the hysterics. She was such a gem.
ReplyDeleteI was going to say pretty much what those above me said...so...
ReplyDeleteNevermind.
She was my all time favorite character on SNL. I don't watch it anymore, but back in the day, I wouldn't miss it if possible.
ReplyDeleteGilda Radner, she is one foxy lady. She's very funny as well and does great impressions.
ReplyDeleteEven though she died in 1989, I remember seeing some women that looked just like her. She also voiced the female characters in Mr. Lisberger's animated movie Animalympics, which is a great movie and I still have a major crush on the Avengeful Contessa, which she probably voiced.
You can hear her do the voice of the character in her very last movie "La Dolce Gilda" or the sweet life of Gilda. Pure Italian!
